My name is Heather and I live in London, England. I Have a BA Honours Degree in Decorative Arts from Nottingham Trent University, where I learnt to work with precious metals and glass. Since graduating in 2009 I have been busy working away making jewellery and also teaching jewellery making.

Practical Skills


Many hands on skills relating to various materials including metal, ceramics, resin, wood, textiles, glass, paper and print.

Jewellery/ Metal based
Various joining techniques including soldering, hinge making, joining with rivets and making chains. Various surface techniques, including enameling, reticulation, polishing, sandblasting, using the roller press, leafing, hammering and stamping techniques. Specialist jewelers techniques, including stone setting, casting, making findings and stinging beads.

Ceramic based skills
Mould making, slip casting, coiling, throwing, and glazing.

Resin based skills

Making various moulds and polishing.

Wood based skills
Drilling, sanding, and use of band saw.
Textiles based skills
Batik dying, embroidery, machine stitching, and use of heat press machine.

Glass based skills
slumping, fusing, cutting of glass, polishing, and sandblasting.

Paper based skills
Making paper from paper pulp, making sheet paper, making paper forms and colouring paper.

Print based skills
Mono printing and embossing.

Various drawing and photography skills.

IT skills

Competent on Word and Adobe Photo shop.

2013-Present: Jewellery tutor, Epping Forest College. 

Teaching students how to make lovely silver jewellery using traditional techniques.

Teaching children all aspects of fine art using the influences and techniques of the great masters of art.

2010-Present: Jewellery Beading Instructor, Indivijewelistic Bead shop.

Teaching beading classes. Guiding pupils step by step in producing a pair of earrings, a necklace and two designs of bracelet.

Leading children’s birthday parties, helping children to create a beaded bracelet and necklace.

2010: Enameling Instructor, Trip Lake Summer Camp 
Teaching enameling to classes of children aged eight to sixteen years old. Skills taught range from simple sifting to complex cloisonne. Projects completed by students include enamel bowls, jewellery and mobiles.

2008: Silversmith Instructor, Trip Lake Summer Camp

Instructing youth ages twelve to seventeen in all aspects of silversmithing. Skills that were taught include: all basic fabrication skills, soldering, forming, and designing jewellery.

Decked Out

'Decked Out' is a retail outlet which sold the handmade work of myself and other Designer/Makers, it was situated in the Flying Horse Arcade in Nottinghams city centre. I was involved in a group project where we organised the setting up and running of this outlet.
